The P2 classroom is a fun and exciting place to be!
We begin P2 by getting settled into our new classroom and getting to know our new teachers!
Literacy- We start by doing lots of revision of our sounds and words we already know from P1. After lots of revision we move onto 2 letter sounds like sh, ch, th. We have so much fun singing songs, going on sound hunts and playing lots of practical sound games to help us learn these. We read in school and at home, and use our new sounds each day to help us decode new and unfamiliar words. We also learn new words and how to spell these so we can begin to use these in our story writing! We start off some sentence writing through rhyming stories, focusing on sentence structure. We are supported and encouraged to write more sentences and how to use our imagination!
Numeracy- We begin by revising concepts from P1 with lots of counting, forwards and backwards! We introduce 'a number of the week' and do lots of number work using practical resources such as making sets of numbers up to 20. P2 do lots of mental maths, counting and introducing skip counting, adding, taking away and fun activities using the Interactive Whiteboard. We start off topic maths with 'Shape,' discovering 2D shapes in our environment and using our thinking skills to sort and create patterns.
Topic- Our first topic in P2 is 'COLOUR AND AUTUMN'. This is a wonderful topic, with lots of opportunity for being creative with colour! We learn lots and get to explore colour mixing with primary and secondary colours and explore colour shades. We read lots of lovely colour stories- The Day the Crayons Quit is an all time favourite along with all the fun STEAM activities we get to do through it. P2 make lots of Autumnal artwork, learn all about hedgehogs and hibernation, apples and exploring all of the autumnal treasures nature has to offer. We soon move onto 'CHRISTMAS', learning songs and engaging children in a rich variety of play, including art, writing, fine motor, role play and small world.
P2 love Play Based Learning and we endeavour this by playing inside and outside as much as we can, developing important skills in a large range of areas.
Check out what we have been busy doing, both inside and outside the classroom!
